Thanks Roger - I was just about to try to contact the other user through FaceBook (I think it's the same guy but can't be sure) he hasn't logged onto Twitter since he signed up as far as I can see.

However, just when I was about to contact him I noticed last night that my Twitter support status had changed to "being processed" so I didn't want to muddy the water any further.

However it still says "being processed" today... :(

Frank, I did the same as Cormac. I changed @rogergalligan to @RogerGalligan without any problems. It seems the new FrankieP has a few followers that meant to follow you - so it is causing some confusion. I think the best thing is to tell him that @FrankPalino is still available and it would mean a lot to you if he changed.

That's not a bad idea, though it does rely on his being a very sympathetic type of person.

I should trust in the kindness of strangers and give it a go :)

My only suggestion would be to try to contact @Frankiep with a link to this story and ask him if he can give you the password to his account.

I think the issue with mine was that the other user somehow managed to register the capitalised version of my name - but I had no visibility of him because Twitter let him register but still pointed the urls at my profile...

That's weird. I changed my twitter username to CormacMoylan from cormacmoylan a few weeks back and I didn't encounter any of the weird issues you encountered.

Have you tried replicating the problem by setting up a dummy twitter account and then changing the name of that account?
